Did you know that couples who regularly practice their Christian faith together are happier than those who do not?
Some research says that divorce rates among Christians are equal—if not worse—than those of the average public. But a bigger picture is often overlooked in these studies. It is one thing to claim you are a Christian and quite another to actually practice your faith.
A recent study by the Institute for Family Studies reveals that “religious affiliation is less important than regular religious attendance when it comes to predicting divorce.” If you are a nominal Protestant who doesn’t attend church, you are more likely to divorce than the average married person in America. However, when both partners attend church, 78 percent report that they are extremely happy in their relationship. When neither couple attends church, this percentage drops to 67 percent.
So don't let pop-culture tell you marriage is outdated and irrelevant! It has always been God’s plan for a man and woman to be joined together in marriage (Genesis 1:27, 28). This sacred bond can bring joy and even strength to the home. Solomon explains, “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him” (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Satan hates loving Christian homes and will try to separate couples who are committed to the Lord. True marital love provides a solid defense against this temptation.
The Lord does not want spiritually divided homes. “What God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mark 10:9). A split marriage is not always caused by an outsider, of course. Division will happen when one spouse does not participate in healthy spiritual activities that bind hearts together. So, attend church together and pray together! It will bring more joy into your relationship.
