 #Cancer Is A #Dreaded Word. No One Wants To Hear A Doctor Say It. While There Are #Treatments For Many #Cancers Now, It's Still A Very Serious Condition And Remains The Second (2nd) Leading Cause Of #Death In The United States.
A Recent Issue Of The Journal Of The American Medical Association Stated Some Good News:

"Almost Half Of Cancers Can Be Prevented."
We can Avoid Developing Many Cancers By Making #Positive #Lifestyle Changes, Including Eating Right Foods. 
Some Of The Earliest Studies Published On #Diet, #Lifestyle And #Cancer #Risk Were Based On A On A National Cancer Institute-sponsored Study Of #Seventh_day_Adventists. Members Of The Seventh-day Adventist Church Were Ideal Subjects Because Their Diet Varied - Approximately Half Of Them Are #Vegetarian-And Because They Don't #Smoke Or Drink #Alcohol
In A Summary Report In The American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition, Researchers Reported That #Adventists Were Less Likely Than The General Public To Develop The Following Cancers: #Oral_Cancer, #Esophageal_Cancer, #Stomach_Cancer, #Colon_Cancer, #Rectal_Cancer, #Liver_Cancer, #Lung_Cancer, #Bladder_Cancer And #Renal_Cancer. Overall, Men Had About Half The Rate For #Digestive_System_Cancers (Linked To Diet), And One-fourth The Rate For #Respiratory_Cancers (Linked To Not Smoking).
Researchers Found Certain Foods Were Related To A Lower Risk Of Succumbing To Specific Cancers:

* #Beans, #Lentils, #Peas And #Fruit Were Protective Against #Prostate_Cancer.

* Fruit Was Protective Against #Lung_Cancer
* Fruit, #Soy, Lentils, #Beans And Peas Were Protective Against #Pancreatic_Cancer 


* #Fiber And #Legumes Showed A Protective Effect Against #Colon_Cancer, While #Saturated_Fats (Found In #Fats Of #Animal Origin) Raised The #Risk Of This Cancer.
* A High Intake Of #Meat Doubled The Risk Of #Bladder_Cancer.
* Those Eating Meat #Occasionally Had 50 Percent (50%) More #Colon_Cancer Than Did #Vegetarians.
 * Those Eating Meat #Regularly Had 85 Percent (85%) More Colon Cancer.
The World Cancer Research Fund And The American Institute For Cancer Research Compiled A Large Number Of Studies On The #Relation Of Cancer Risk To Diet. 
The Compilers Concluded That A Diet High In #Fruits And #Vegetables #Reduced The Risk For Many Cancers. Here's A Brief Summary Of Their #Recommendations:

* Choose #Predominately #Plant_based Diets Rich In A Variety Of #Vegetables, #Fruits, #Legumes And #Minimally #Processed #Starchy #Staple Foods.
* Maintain A #healthy Body #Weight.
* If Your Occupation Is #Inactive (most Are) Take An Hour's #Brisk Walk Or Similar #Exercise Daily. And Get At Least An Hour Of #Vigorous Exercise Each Week.
* Eat Four Hundred (400) To Eight Hundred (800) Grams (At Least Five (5) Or More Servings) Of #Fresh Fruits And Vegetables Every Day All Year Round. #Plant_foods Most Protective Against cancer Are #Leafy Greens, #Broccoli, #Bok_choy, #Cabbage, #Garlic, #Onions And Fruit, Including #Tomatoes.
* Eat Seven (7) Or More Servings Of Whole #Grains, Legumes And #Root_vegetables Daily.
* Don't Drink #Alcohol.

* If You Must Eat #Red_meat, Eat It #Sparingly.

* Limit Your Consumption Of #Fatty_foods, Particularly Those Of Animal Origin.


As You Can See, These Studies Indicate That A Major Factor #Preventing Cancer Is Eating A #Plant_based Diet - Or Something Close To It.
